Three

PRESS RELEASE: October 26, 2025 


All Three First Selectman Candidates Endorse Wheels2U!


All three candidates for First Selectman, along with the two Second Selectwoman candidates, recently took rides on Wheels2U and praised the Westport Transit District’s on-demand, door-to-door service to the train stations, the Senior Center, the Farmers’ Market and the Library at Jesup Green. The candidates shared their experiences using Wheels2U in videos, highlighting Wheels2U’s convenience and community impact.

 

According to Don O’Day, Wheels2U “Is a very convenient thing to use and it is designed to really help reduce congestion and traffic in town”. He said, “it is definitely something you should check out.” Andrea Moore added “It’s super easy to use!”

 

David Rosenwaks added “I really hope people start using the service more and more.” He added, “We can accomplish a lot of things with programs like Wheels2U.“

 

And Kevin Christie said, “With the stop at the library there’s so much access to the Levitt,

Main Street and more.” Amy Wistreich pointed out that “It’s not just for commuters; do you know you can take this to go . . .to Saugatuck for dinner? I love this idea!”

Saugatuck is more than just a train station. Take Wheels2U to Saugatuck between 4:00 PM and 9:30 PM and

 

·        Dine in one of its many fine restaurants,

·        Meet friends for a drink after work,

·        Take a Pilates class,

·        Shop for home decor, 

·        Rent a boat to cruise the Sound or to go to Cockenoe Island, or

·        Visit one of the many other fine establishments in the area.

Well, Westport’s Wheels2U on-demand, door-to-door transit service may be your answer. And now, you can try it out for free! The Westport Transit District is pleased to offer five free rides to anyone who downloads the Wheels2U app for the first time, making it easier than ever to explore and commute around town.

After launching multiple service expansions and introducing a new operator with fuel-efficient vehicles, Wheels2U has officially surpassed 100,000 rides — a testament to the growing need for flexible, community-focused transit in Westport.


From downtown pilot programs to curb-to-train connections, demand for Wheels2U continues to rise. And it’s not slowing down.

Grows Again!

Wheels2U Grows Again!


Despite the possible loss of funding for Wheels2U, the Westport Transit District is taking the long view and planning for the future. With that in mind, The Westport Transit District is proud to announce another expansion of its Wheels2U service.


Beginning Tuesday, May 13, 2025, Wheels2U, the Westport Transit District’s curb-to-train station on-demand commuter shuttle, will start a new pilot program adding new hours and new destinations.

Help Restore Funding for Wheels 2U Westport

PRESS RELEASE: April 14, 2025


Westport is in danger of losing the Wheels2U shuttle yet again.


The Board of Finance has once again voted at its March meeting to eliminate all funding for Wheels2U, the Westport Transit District’s door-to-train station on-demand commuter shuttle. This will effectively shut down the service as of June 30, 2025. (Note: The door to door service for the elderly and persons with disabilities will not be affected.)


We need your help to keep the shuttle alive!

FREE RIDES ON WHEELS 2U WESTPORT

PRESS RELEASE: May 20, 2024


As a thank you for downloading or updating the new Wheels2U app, rides on Wheels2U will be free for all riders from Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24. The normal $2.00 fare per ride will not be charged.

Free Fare Fridays: FEB 17 & 24, 2023

PRESS RELEASE: February 15, 2023


In honor of Presidents Day, Wheels2U Westport, Westport’s on-demand, group ride, door to train platform shuttle service, will be free on Friday, February 17 and again on Friday, February 24. Peter Gold, Director of the Westport Transit District said “On those two Fridays all rides on Wheels2U to and from the Westport and Greens Farms train stations will be free. The normal $2 fare will not be charged.”

Ride the Bus; Get Free Coffee!


PRESS RELEASE: January 10, 2023


To celebrate Martin Luther King Day, the Westport Transit District and Steam Coffee Tea are teaming up to offer riders free coffee. Just ride Wheels2U in the morning on Friday, January 13 or Tuesday, January 17, show your proof of completed ride at Steam between 6 AM and 10:30 AM that morning, and receive a free regular coffee. (There is no Wheels2U service on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 16).
